Dr. Ruhkala prides himself with keeping up with current dental advances and continuing education.  He has been a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) for the last 43 years and works hard to make his office a safe and comfortable place for his patients.  For the last 43 years, he has adhered to advice his father told him when he started dentistry: “If you treat everyone like family, you will know you did the best dentistry you could do”.

When Dr. Ruhkala is not in the office, he is enjoying team roping, golfing, hunting, fishing or just exploring the beautiful mountains that brought him here!

She and her husband enjoy any activity that takes them outdoors and feel blessed to live in a beautiful valley with so much opportunity to do so! Skiing, camping, boating, hiking, and biking top the list. When not enjoying the Great Outdoors, they love spending time with family and their wonderful nieces and nephews who keep them busy and entertained!

Dr. Ruhkala graduated from UC Davis in Davis, California with a degree in Biological Sciences.  He attended Georgetown Dental School in Washington D.C. and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1974.   He always loved Montana and the mountains and moved permanently to St. Ignatius in 1974 and joined the Public Health Service.  While working for the Public Health service in St. Ignatius, he also helped start up the Polson Public Health Dental Clinic.  In 1977, he transitioned to Mission Valley Health Services, where he joined a group of physicians as the only dentist.  Their group clinic was located in the old hospital, now the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes' Tribal Health building.  In 1991, he built Mission Valley Dental Clinic, where he is located today.
